Elder G. C. Riser, while being deported from Wirtemberg and lacking the funds to travel to Hamburg, received unexpected financial aid from a gentleman who had previously opposed him but declared Riser was not a hypocrite, as well as from others moved by the Lord.
Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):
I was ordered to leave the kingdom of Wirtemberg, and had only a few hours allowed me to prepare for my departure. I had no money to pay my expenses to Hamburg, and I felt somewhat perplexed. I went to a gentleman who had been very much opposed to me, and told him I was ordered to leave, and that I had not money enough to take me to my destination. He looked at me for a moment, and said, 'I have opposed you, and I have said many things against you, but I have watched your conduct, and I am satisfied that you are not a hypocrite; you believe what you teach.' He then gave me some money, and wished me a prosperous journey. The Lord put it into the hearts of a few others to give me a little, and with that and selling a few of my things, I got money to pay my expenses to Hamburg, where I arrived on the 30th.
In Their Own Words
“The Lord put it into the hearts of a few others to give me a little, and with that and selling a few of my things, I got money to pay my expenses to Hamburg, where I arrived on the 30th. — Millennial Star 15:23”
