In 1903, Emily P. Horner experienced a profound visionary dream. She dreamt she stood alone on a high mountain when a terrifying, violent thunderstorm erupted, enveloping the earth in darkness and punctuated by vivid lightning. After the storm subsided, a great light appeared in the sky, and Emily beheld the figure of Jesus Christ standing in its center. He was clothed in white, and His countenance was so glorious that she found it difficult to look upon Him. Although He did not speak, His presence brought a deep, incomparable peace. As the light faded, two young men dressed in dark suits and carrying books appeared on the mountainside. When they approached, Emily recounted the storm and her vision to them. She felt a sense of familiarity with one of the men and asked if they had met previously; he smiled and promised, 'I will see you again and preach the Gospel to you.' Upon waking, Emily shared the dream with her family, who dismissed it as mere imagination. However, when two missionaries—Elder Cutler and Elder Forbes—eventually arrived at her home, she recognized them instantly as the men from her dream. This encounter led to her baptism and the subsequent conversion of her husband.
In Their Own Words
“While she was still gazing at him, two young men appeared on the mountain side. They were dressed in dark suits and carried books under their arms. They walked towards her, and as they drew near, the storm and the light faded away, and she found herself talking to them. She told them of the storm and of the wonderful vision she had just seen. As they talked, my mother had the impression that his face was familiar to her, and she asked him if it was possible they had met before. He smiled and said, 'I will see you again and preach the Gospel to you.' — Millennial Star 105:21”
