Elder Thomas A. H. B., serving in New Zealand, notes that the Maori people are rejecting mainstream Christian teachings. He reports that the natives claim their deceased chiefs are returning to talk with them, which the Elder interprets as a precursor to their future receptivity to the gospel.
In Their Own Words
“They say that some of their old chiefs who have died, are coming back to them to talk with them. So I think before long they will be brought to a knowledge of the truth. We will endeavor to learn their language if the Presidency see fit for us to stay here, so that, if possible, we can be enabled to talk with them in their own tongue, by the blessing of the Almighty, upon our efforts for the spread of the truth. — Millennial Star 40:47”
