Elder James Astle and his company of Saints, while traveling home to Salt Lake City, experienced a series of delays—including a short visit in Bingham, a delay in landing at Boston, and being held in Chicago for two days—which ultimately resulted in them missing the Kansas floods and arriving safely. Elder James Astle, who has been presiding over the Sheffield conference, writes that he and his company of Saints, while traveling home to Salt Lake City, experienced a series of delays—including a short visit in Bingham, a delay in landing at Boston, and being held in Chicago for two days—which ultimately resulted in them missing the Kansas floods and arriving safely. The editor notes this as a providential intervention.

“Elder James Astle, writing from Salt Lake City, says, “We visited one half day in Bingham, and this with the delay in landing at Boston saved us from being caught in the Kansas floods. We were held in Chicago two days, and then the Chicago and Alton people sent us via the Chicago and North Western, and we got through safely.” Little incidents these seem—the delay of a vessel on the water, for a few hours, or short trip aside from the main line—but in the providence of the Lord they preserved His children from trouble and possibly serious disaster. — Millennial Star 65:26”
