Elder J. S. Brandley, while laboring as a missionary in Boscobel, Wisconsin, faced bitter opposition while tracting. He prayed for divine guidance to find an honest soul to talk with. He was impressed to go to a specific large brick house where he was invited in by a woman and given the opportunity to explain the gospel to her and two other ladies. Despite their initial antagonism, they became interested and the woman purchased a Book of Mormon and another book on LDS doctrine.

In Their Own Words

“While laboring in Boscobel, Wisconsin, I met with considerable opposition. One day, after having been refused at several doors, I felt somewhat discouraged, and I went to the Lord in prayer, asking Him to lead me to the door of some good, honest soul, to whom I would be able to explain the principles of the Gospel. I then went a short distance further and a large brick house came into view, and something seemed to impress me to go straight to that house, which I did. I went up the steps and rang the bell; a lady came to the door. I informed her that I was doing missionary work, whereupon she invited me into the house and into a room where there were two other ladies. This gave me an opportunity to explain the message I bore to three, which made me feel very thankful. They listened very attentively, and although they were somewhat antagonistic at first, they became interested, and before I left the lady of the house purchased a Book of Mormon and another book on the principles of the Gospel.”
