Elder J. E. W. Fotheringham's spiritual impression and successful re-baptisms in Mansfield

While serving in Nottingham and surrounding areas, Elder J. E. W. Fotheringham felt a strong spiritual impression to teach the Saints the necessity of renewing their covenants. Acting on this impulse, he and a group traveled to Mansfield where they re-baptized 12 people. He describes feeling exceptionally blessed while officiating in this ordinance and emphasizes the importance of the apostolic approach to resolving personal conflicts.
In Their Own Words
“I returned to Nottingham; then went to Mansfield, while there I felt impressed to teach the necessity of them renewing their covenants by baptism, and on the Sunday we went to the baths and re-baptized 12, the overseers took great pleasure in making everything comfortable for us. A few gentlemen and ladies were allowed the privilege of being present. I do not know when I felt better than I did while officiating in this most ancient and sacred rite. We met together in the evening, and in public meeting re-confirmed and re-ordained them, talked on the nature of that which had been done, and tried to encourage and build up; I feel impressed to teach my brethren and sisters the old apostolic plan of dealing, and I am satisfied that if we would only do so, we should have less trouble and more peace and union in our branches.”
