After a Protestant minister published false accusations in a journal claiming that Mormon missionaries were deceiving inhabitants of the village of Tulahualco, Elder Helaman Pratt utilized the incident to confront the minister. Pratt thanked the minister for the 'free advertising' he had provided for the Church and informed him that while the initial report was false, the Elders would indeed be visiting the village, turning a malicious attack into an opportunity for missionary work.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 48, No. 1, January 4, 1886):

A few days later, Elder Pratt met the unscrupulous author of the article, and in a short conversation on the subject thanked him for the free advertising he had been kind enough to give us, and assured him that although the statement concerning our missionaries visiting Tulahualco, like the rest of his assertions, was false, our Elders would take the hint and visit that village in a few days. The result was that the Elders went there, and were received with open arms by the people, who were anxious to hear the truth, and a good work was commenced in that place.

In Their Own Words
