Elder Grove relates that during his journey from London to Utah, God's protecting hand preserved him and his family. Upon arriving in Provo City with only one dollar and a half, he found sufficient work as a tailor to maintain his family, keep out of debt, and pay tithing, which he interprets as a fulfillment of the promise to 'Seek ye first the kingdom of God... and all these things shall be added unto you.'
In Their Own Words
“My journey across the States, and over the Plains was very interesting; although not attended with any incident differing from all other emigrants who have the same object in view, yet there were two circumstances which fill me with gratitude to my heavenly Father : one was the visible and protecting hand of God that watched over and preserved me and mine all the journey through, the other was the care and kindness shown to us by the brethren who had charge of the emigration... I may here state, that when I arrived in Provo, all the money I possessed was one dollar and-a-half, (six shillings and eightpence,) a very small sum to arrive in England with, with a wife and four children to provide for ; yet, notwithstanding, I have never wanted, neither had occasion to work so many hours in a day as in London. Thus far has my temporal wants been supplied, and proved the saying of Jesus true, ‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.’ — Millennial Star 29:14”
