While serving as missionaries in Mississippi, Elders Flake and Homer were beset by masked men armed with shotguns. The attackers threatened the Elders and fired their guns multiple times, seemingly to frighten them into leaving the area. The Elders were not intimidated, and the mob eventually left without harming them.
In Their Own Words
“The Deseret News gives an account of Elders Flake and Homer, missionaries in Mississippi, having been beset by masked men with shot-guns, who made many threats of what they would do to the Elders if they did not leave that part of the country immediately, and fired their guns a number of times, evidently with the intention of frightening them. Finding, however, that the Elders did not scare very easily, the cowardly fellows left without doing any damage. — Millennial Star 46:20”
