During a brief five-week duration of labor in Kent and Essex, Elder C. E. Angell experienced a powerful manifestation of the Spirit, which he described as granting him greater freedom of thought and speech than he had ever received before, enabling him to speak before a mixed congregation for an hour.

In Their Own Words

“During my sojourn in Kent and Essex, which was of but five weeks' duration, I experienced greater consolation, though I baptized but one, than I did during the six months I labored in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, for I felt greater freedom of thought and speech than I had ever been the recipient of before; and though surprised at being able to stand before a mixed congregation for the period of one hour, I felt to render all credit to the promptings of the Spirit of God.”

— C. E. Angell, The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star
