Elder C. D. Evans's discourse and the miraculous silencing of an opponent

During a meeting on Woodhouse Moor, Leeds, after an opponent interrupted the Saints with a loud cry, the man's tongue was tied and he was unable to speak, causing the audience to ask him to get down. This was followed by a successful address by Elder C. D. Evans to an audience of two thousand people.
In Their Own Words
“At the close of our second meeting, a professed minister of the Gospel, with the Bible in hand, mounted the platform and cried out in a loud voice, 'Eternity! eternity! If any man preach any other Gospel than that which we (Paul) have preached, let him be accursed,' to which the Saints replied, 'Amen.' He said that he had not come to preach baptism, but Christ, and then his tongue was tied, he was scarcely able to speak, and the audience asked him to get down, feeling disgusted at his remarks. I then arose and said, 'My friends, you have heard the gentleman, and you have seen the power of God manifested in his behalf, for he cannot speak.' I then spoke for some time on the first principles of the Gospel, and the necessity of baptism for the remission of sins, and the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, and bore my testimony to the truth of the work of God in these last days, to an audience of about two thousand people, who listened with great attention, and many expressed their satisfaction with what they had heard.”
