An aged and faithful Latter-day Saint sister residing in Nottingham was in extreme poverty, earning only two shillings weekly by sewing. She had been praying for the means to emigrate to Zion to join her daughter. While President William Budge and the branch clerk were visiting, a letter arrived informing the sister that her daughter had paid for her emigration, allowing her to depart on the company leaving Liverpool on June 28th. The sister was overcome with emotion and grateful tears at this answer to her prayers.
In Their Own Words
“Illustrative of these passing reflections, we witnessed an interesting scene, full of the pathetic, on our recent visit to Nottingham. We were at the house of one of the brethren, where resides an aged and faithful sister. The latter is in extreme poverty, being enabled to earn scarce more than two shillings weekly, by sewing stockings. She had been long hoping and praying for the way to open up for her to go to Zion, and there join her daughter, who had preceded her. While we were there a letter came. It was handed to Brother Bramall, who opened it and announced that the hoped for deliverance had come. The daughter of the aged sister had paid the means to enable her to take her departure with the company which will leave Liverpool on the 28th of June. It was glad tidings of great joy to the person whose day of deliverance had arrived. Overcome with the powerful emotions that swelled in her bosom, she sank upon a chair. Her feelings were at length relieved by expression in a flood of grateful tears. It was a scene of genuine pathos, upon which we could not gaze unmoved.”
