After arriving to serve a mission in England, Chas. J. Snow struggled with opposing spirits, one tempting him to return home and another encouraging his faith. He went into a grove, prayed to the Lord for a contented mind and strength to overcome the temptations of the Evil One, and was subsequently blessed with a contented mind and continued divine favor.
In Their Own Words
“I found there were two spirits working with me. One would tempt me, saying 'you had better go home, for you can do no good here, but at home you can have all the comforts of life and enjoy the society of your friends.' But another spirit would tempt me, saying 'continue faithful and you shall have a contented mind, and my spirit to lead you into all truth that you may be enabled to perform an honorable mission.' I felt these two powers with me for three days, the one trying to discourage me, the other encouraging me. I then went into a grove of trees and I asked the Lord to give me a contented mind, and inasmuch as I had been called by those having authority, that I might be enabled to overcome the temptations of the Evil One who endeavors to discourage those who labor in spreading truth upon the earth. From that time to the present, I have had a contented mind, and the Lord has blessed me continually.”
