While visiting the Yaqui Indians, the narrator, identified as Brigham Young, suffered from a severe fever (identified later as yellow fever). He called the Elders to his bedside to administer to him. Under the laying on of hands and prayer by Elder McDonald and others, he was healed by the power of God, overcoming a state where he believed he would have died in two days without the intervention.
In Their Own Words
“In the morning I called the Elders to my bedside and requested them to administer unto me, and ask the Lord to rebuke the fever from which I suffered so much. It was evident that, unless I obtained relief from some quarter, two days more of such suffering would end my earthly career. The brethren laid their hands upon me, and Elder McDonald prayed in my behalf. Under the administration I was healed by the power of God.”
— Brigham Young Jr., journal entry dated 1884, as cited in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star
