Brigham Young testified in 1860: "I do know that I handed out a half-eagle to a poor man in my office, and then found two half-eagles in my pocket that I never put there." Having given away the last gold coin of its kind in his pocket to relieve the poor, he discovered twice as much in its place — money that no human hand had placed there. He recounted it as one of the ways the Lord had multiplied means under his hands when means were given for the Lord's purposes.
