After the preaching of the Gospel in Sivas and Zara by Elder Hintze and others, converts received divine testimonies of the truth. One convert, Shahabian, wrote to Apostle George Teasdale expressing gratitude for the restoration of the Gospel and the divine testimony he and other local converts had received.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

Sivas, Asia Minor, Oct. 15, 1888. Dear Brother Teasdale:—I take the liberty of writing to you, as I know you are interested in the work of the Lord in this part of the world. We that have believed, and been baptized, have received divine testimonies, and we have also commenced to bear testimony. Times have been that Brother Hintze has preached till two o’clock in the night. The people are very anxious to hear the truth. We have had some opposition, but the Lord has been with us. We have been enabled to answer all questions, and to show them the truth of the Gospel. We are very thankful to the Lord for the restoration of the Gospel in these last days, and for the testimony we have received. We are trying to live our religion, and to be faithful to the covenants we have made. We hope you will remember us in your prayers, that we may be able to stand firm in the truth, and that we may be the means of bringing many of our friends and relatives to a knowledge of the Gospel. We are very thankful for the visit of Brother Hintze, and for the instructions he has given us. We feel that the Lord has sent him to us, and we pray that he may be blessed in his labors. We are your brethren in the Gospel, Shahabian and others.

In Their Own Words
