Apostle Rudger Clawson's account of the shout of Hosanna in the Utah penitentiary

Apostle Rudger Clawson related an experience during his and President Lorenzo Snow's imprisonment in the Utah penitentiary. President Snow suggested that the brethren there offer the shout of Hosanna to God, which they did. Clawson testified that he believed the shout was heard and recorded in heaven.

During their imprisonment in March 1886, President Lorenzo Snow gathered the 35 to 40 Latter-day Saint inmates in the Utah penitentiary. He explained that although they were denied the privilege of attending General Conference, they held the right to offer the Hosanna shout to the Lord to express gratitude. After obtaining the agreement of the group by a show of hands, they performed the shout at the top of their lungs. Rudger Clawson later testified at President Snow's funeral that the shout was acceptable to the Lord and that the foundation of the prison seemed to shake as the sound ascended to heaven.
