As a young missionary in Denmark, Anthon H. Lund and his companions were warned of a planned mob attack on their meeting, specifically noting that a local blacksmith, known for his immense strength and described by Lund as resembling a 'cyclops,' had been bribed with liquor to assault the elders. Despite the warning, the missionaries proceeded with their appointment. When the blacksmith entered the meeting, the atmosphere was tense, but through the calm demeanor and spiritual presence of the young missionaries, the mob's intent was thwarted, and the meeting proceeded without the threatened violence.

In Their Own Words

“When Lund saw the large, one-eyed blacksmith with “fists like sledge hammers” enter the meeting, he later said he felt like he was seeing the cyclops from Greek mythology. — Anthon H. Lund, Global Histories: Denmark”
