After a fall and developing a severe eye inflammation that left her entirely blind, Lucy Mack Smith requested that the elders pray for her sight. Upon the conclusion of their prayer, she was immediately able to read the Book of Mormon without glasses, which she continued to do thereafter.

In Their Own Words

“I called upon the elders, and requested them to pray to the Lord that I might be able to see, so as to be able to read without even wearing spectacles. They did so, and when they took their hands off my head, I read two lines in the Book of Mormon; and although I am now seventy years old, I have never worn glasses since. — Lucy Mack Smith, History of Joseph Smith by His Mother, Chapter XLIV”
