When a mob surrounded her house, seeking to seize her son Hyrum and pillage their property, Lucy Mack Smith felt overwhelmed. She went aside and kneeled before the Lord, praying that her children would not fall into the hands of the mob and that the mob would be satisfied with plunder without taking life.

In Their Own Words

“However, there was one resource, and to that I applied. I went aside and kneeled before the Lord, and begged that he would not let my children fall into their hands, and that they might be satisfied with plunder without taking life. — Lucy Mack Smith, History of Joseph Smith by His Mother, Chapter XXXVI”
