On the same day that Martin Harris lost the 116 pages of the manuscript, a dense fog settled over his fields and blighted his wheat crop while it was in the blow, resulting in a loss of about two-thirds of the crop, while neighboring fields on the other side of the road remained unharmed.
In Their Own Words
“It seemed as though Martin Harris, for his transgression, suffered temporally as well as spiritually. The same day on which the foregoing circumstance took place, a dense fog spread itself over his fields, and blighted his wheat while in the blow, so that he lost about two thirds of his erop, whilst those fields which lay only on the opposite side of the road received no injury whatever. — Lucy Mack Smith, History of Joseph Smith by His Mother, Chapter XXVI”
