While presenting the message of the Latter-day Saints at a theatre in Stockton where an anti-Mormon play was being performed, President William A. Monson felt the Spirit of the Lord assist him. Despite initial concerns about being in a hostile environment, the audience became respectful, provided rapt attention for eighteen minutes, and applauded him at the conclusion of his talk.
In Their Own Words
“I can most assuredly say that the Spirit of the Lord came to my assistance. The audience became respectful and gave splendid attention during the eighteeen minutes I was out. I took up all the time refuting slanders, and received a hearty applause when through. — Millennial Star 87:2”
