David Candland — Miraculous Recovery from Sickness

In 1850, following the hardships of the Mormon Battalion march and the early years of establishing Salt Lake City, David Candland became dangerously ill. His condition was severe enough that he feared he would not survive. He sought the 'ordinances of the House of the Lord' and was administered to by the elders of the Church. Candland recorded that following this Priesthood administration, he experienced a rapid and 'miraculous' recovery, which he credited to the power of God. This restoration of health allowed him to continue his extensive service as a clerk for Brigham Young and later as a pioneer leader in Mt. Pleasant.
