Israel Call — Protection During the 1912 Exodus from Mexico

During the 1912 exodus of Latter-day Saints from Mexico due to the Mexican Revolution, Israel Call was responsible for leading a large group of family members toward the United States border. Near Colonia Dublán, the group was intercepted by a band of armed rebels (insurrectos) who intended to confiscate their horses and wagons, which would have left the family stranded and vulnerable. Israel Call led his family in silent, fervent prayer for protection. As the rebel leader approached to seize the property, he suddenly stopped, looked at Israel Call, and his demeanor changed instantly. Instead of robbing them, the leader allowed the family to pass unharmed and even warned them of other dangerous bands of soldiers further down the trail. The family viewed this sudden change of heart as a direct answer to prayer and divine intervention.
