During the period of intense persecution in Missouri, Anson Call and a group of brethren received a divine warning to abandon their settlements. A messenger arrived and informed them that they must leave immediately because difficulties were imminent. When the brethren inquired about the source of the trouble, the messenger stated he could not say, only that the message he had received was for them to go to Far West or Adam-ondi-Ahman. Call and his associates unanimously agreed to follow this guidance, leaving their farms and crops behind just before the onset of major hostilities in Daviess and Caldwell counties.
