Elias W. Smith — Priesthood Rebuke of Cain in Hawaii

In 1918, while serving a mission in Hawaii, Elias W. Smith (the brother of President Joseph Fielding Smith) reported a terrifying encounter with a being he identified as Cain. While in his room, Smith felt a sudden and overwhelming presence of evil and saw a large, dark, hairy being that filled him with dread. The being appeared to be the same 'immortal wanderer' described in earlier Church history. Smith exercised his faith and the power of the priesthood, commanding the entity to leave in the name of Jesus Christ. The oppressive presence immediately vanished, providing Smith with a powerful witness of the protective power of prayer and priesthood authority.
