William Lang — Preservation of the 1852 Wagon Company

William Lang served as the captain of a pioneer wagon company that traveled from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to the Salt Lake Valley in 1852. This particular travel season was marked by a severe and deadly cholera epidemic that claimed the lives of hundreds of pioneers along the trail. According to family and DUP records, the William Lang Company sought divine protection through daily prayer and strict adherence to spiritual counsel. While many surrounding companies suffered heavy casualties, Lang's company was remarkably preserved from the plague, arriving in Salt Lake City in September 1852 with their health and numbers largely intact.
