James Caffall — Vision in Salt Lake City Regarding the Reorganization

In 1866, while residing in Salt Lake City, Utah, James Caffall experienced a period of intense spiritual searching regarding the direction of the church in Utah. Having emigrated from England in 1861, he sought divine guidance through fervent prayer to know which path to follow. He recorded receiving a powerful spiritual manifestation and vision that provided him with a "clearer light" and convinced him that the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS) was the correct path. This vision led him to be baptized into the RLDS faith by E.C. Brand on July 15, 1866, and subsequently leave Utah.

Recording note: Caffall recorded this experience in his autobiography, which was published posthumously in The Saints' Herald (Vol. 53), the official periodical of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Caffall (1825–1866) died on December 18, 1866, at Batavia, Illinois, only months after leaving Utah and uniting with the Reorganization.
