After the Heaps family helped settle the remote community of Escalante, Utah, Susannah Goldthorpe Heaps became critically ill. In the isolated pioneer settlement, medical resources were extremely limited, and her condition reached a point where her family feared for her life. Thomas Heaps called upon local Priesthood holders to administer to her. During the blessing, she was promised a restoration of health. Following the administration, Susannah experienced a rapid and complete recovery, which the family and the local community viewed as a direct answer to prayer and a manifestation of Priesthood power. This event was documented by her granddaughter as a cornerstone of the family's spiritual heritage.
