Seth Johnson — Divine Warning during the Black Hawk War

During the Black Hawk War in the mid-1860s, Seth Johnson was involved in the dangerous task of guarding settlements and livestock near Panguitch. On one specific occasion while out on patrol, Seth received a sudden and powerful spiritual impression—described as a 'still small voice'—warning him of immediate danger and instructing him to change his route. Heeding the warning instantly, he diverted his path. It was later discovered that a party of Indians had been lying in wait in an ambush at the exact location he would have passed. Seth maintained throughout his life that this divine intervention was the only reason he survived the encounter.
