Jacob Hamblin — Divine Warning to Evade Federal Marshals

During his later years in the mid-1880s, Jacob Hamblin lived in the 'Underground' to avoid arrest by federal marshals for practicing plural marriage. According to the history by Cora B. W. Sabin, while staying in a remote area near Alpine, Arizona, Hamblin received a distinct and urgent spiritual warning—a 'still small voice'—telling him to leave his current location immediately. Heeding the divine guidance, he packed his few belongings and departed into the mountains. Only a short time after his departure, federal officers arrived at the exact cabin where he had been staying. This miraculous intervention allowed Hamblin to continue his mission and service to the local settlements without being imprisoned during his final years.
