Sally Penn Barton — Healing of a Dying Child by a Mysterious Stranger

While living in Parowan, Utah, Sally Penn Barton was left alone with her children while her husband, William Barton, was away on a church assignment. One of her children became dangerously ill and appeared to be at the point of death. Sally, having no one to call upon for a priesthood blessing, knelt in fervent prayer, pleading for divine help. Shortly after, a stranger appeared at her door. Despite her poverty, she offered him what little food she had. The man then asked about the sick child, entered the room, and administered a blessing. The child was immediately healed and restored to health. The stranger departed, and Sally later believed him to be a heavenly messenger or one of the Three Nephites, as he seemed to vanish. This account is a cornerstone of the Barton family history recorded in DUP manuscripts.
