In the summer of 1880, the settlement of Snowflake, Arizona, faced a severe drought that threatened to destroy the community's crops and livestock. Jesse Nathaniel Smith, serving as a local Church leader, organized a day of fasting and prayer for the entire settlement. He recorded that shortly after the community united in prayer, a significant and timely rainstorm occurred, which saved the harvest and was recognized by the settlers as a direct answer to their petitions.
