Flora Smith Amussen Benson: An Equal Partner in the Work of the Lord (1926-1994)

Flora Smith Amussen Benson (1901-1992) was the beloved wife and eternal companion of President Ezra Taft Benson. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple by Elder Orson F. Whitney, who had been Ezra's mission president. Flora herself had served a mission, and the Bensons were devoted to raising a righteous posterity, spending many hours with their children teaching them the gospel. President Benson spoke of Flora as an equal partner in the work of the Lord, and the Church News remembered that 'their lives were happily linked' from the time of their temple marriage. She counseled mothers to radiate a spirit of contentment and joy with homemaking, and to live up to their divine potential. Her consecrated partnership is a faith-promoting witness that the Lord grants to His prophets faithful companions, and that the work of the ministry is borne upon the shoulders of two who have become one in the temple.
