Heber Bennion: Seventeen Years as Bishop of Taylorsville (ca. 1885-1920)

Heber Bennion (1858-1932) was born in Taylorsville, Utah, and was called to serve as bishop of the Taylorsville Ward, a position he held for about seventeen years. He kept diaries from 1888 to 1897 that record the spiritual and temporal life of his ward and family, and in 1920 he authored the book 'Gospel Problems,' a thoughtful Latter-day Saint treatment of questions of faith. He was a faithful local shepherd through the turn of the century, laboring among the people of his own valley for the whole of his long ministry. His life is a faith-promoting witness of the bishops who tend the same flock for many years, teaching, counseling, and bearing the weight of the ward with patient consecration.
