Milton Bennion: Educator and Sunday School Superintendent (University of Utah, 1913-1949)

Milton Bennion (1870-1953) served as dean of the University of Utah's College of Education from 1913 to 1941, after joining the faculty in 1901 as a professor of philosophy and education, and became the first director of the University of Utah Extension Division. A faithful Latter-day Saint, he was called in 1943 to be the sixth general superintendent of the Deseret Sunday School Union, serving until 1949. He was the father of Lowell L. Bennion, the beloved founder of the first Institute of Religion, and modeled in his own life the union of rigorous learning and devoted Church service that his son would make the work of a lifetime. His labors are a faith-promoting witness of those who build both the academy and the Sunday School, consecrating intellect and pedagogy to the building up of Zion.
