Amasa Miles Barton: A Faithful Saint of the San Juan Mission and the Hole-in-the-Rock (b. 1857)

Amasa Miles Barton (born 27 May 1857) was a Latter-day Saint called, with numerous other Saints, to be part of the San Juan Mission—one of the most arduous colonizing missions of the pioneer era. Brother Barton accepted the call and set out to explore and colonize southern Utah, joining the famous Hole-in-the-Rock expedition (1879–80) that blazed a wagon road down a sheer cliff to the San Juan River. His life is a faith-promoting witness of the Saints who, when the Lord's servants called them to a hard place, said yes and went—carving a people out of the wilderness by faith.
