Henry Ballard: A Faithful Cache Valley Bishop and English-Immigrant Pioneer

Henry Ballard was an English Latter-day Saint who, as a young man of twenty, immigrated to the United States and gathered to Cache Valley, Utah, where he became a bishop. A great-grandfather of Elder M. Russell Ballard, Henry Ballard and his wife Margaret McNeil Ballard settled in Logan and there raised a faithful family that has carried the gospel through generations. President Ballard often told the story of a letter, dated May 15, 1884, in England, that came into the hands of Henry and Margaret in Logan—a reminder of the Lord's watchful care over a faithful bishop's family across the oceans and the plains. Henry Ballard's life is a faith-promoting witness of the English converts who gathered, served as bishops, and built up Zion in the valleys of the mountains.
