Brother Scroggins Healed of Violent Illness Through Faith and Obedience

Brother Scroggins of the 1859 Rowley Handcart Company had a powerful dream in which the Spirit of God came upon him and he prophesied that if the Saints ceased their murmuring, disease would afflict them and many would fall. The next morning as the company departed, Brother Scroggins felt perfect health. However, about three hours into the journey, he was suddenly attacked with violent pains in his bowels. Though he continued pulling his handcart, the pain intensified and his eyes became so weak that he could no longer see. He fell by the wayside near Fort Laramie, Wyoming, and prayed fervently to the Lord for relief and strength. Alone and in great suffering, thinking he might die, the dream suddenly flashed vividly across his mind. He prayed again, telling the Lord that if it were His will, he should relate the dream to the Saints, that his pain might leave him. In that very moment, the pain departed completely. Within a short time, he had recovered entirely and was able to return to camp as well as ever. This was a clear manifestation of the Lord's power and willingness to answer sincere prayers of faith.
