Newel Knight recorded the first use of his priesthood power immediately after receiving it. He wrote: 'After the close of the meeting, B[rother] Hyrum Smith laid his hands upon me and ordained me an Elder. And I, having just received this authority, went to my Aunt Martha Peck, who had been afflicted for a long time, and had great faith that she would be healed... I laid my hands upon her, and commanded the disease to leave her in the name of Jesus Christ. She was healed from that hour and her neighbors knew that something great had taken place.' This remarkable healing demonstrated the immediate power of the priesthood when exercised in faith.
