When Milo Andrus was five years old, his family moved to Dunkirk, New York on Lake Erie. One day young Milo went to the shore of the lake and got into a skiff, then fell asleep. The wind arose and took the skiff out onto the lake, and it drifted until it was nearly out of sight. At that critical moment, he was picked up by someone while still sound asleep. Milo believed that the Angel of Peace watched over him at that moment, protecting his life from what could have been a fatal drowning.
