When Elisha Graves and Isaac Higbee came to preach in Hamilton County, Illinois around April 1835, they baptized approximately 30-40 persons. The power of the Lord was made manifest to all the believers. Mostly they spoke with new tongues and gave the interpretation of the same. The sick were healed, and the hearts of all the believers had cause to rejoice in the goodness of God. George Washington Gill Averett's entire family—his father, mother, and three sisters and two brothers—were baptized during this miraculous visitation, and all witnessed the genuine gifts of the Holy Ghost being poured out.
