Benjamin Brown Waylaid, Beaten, and Rescued on Mission in Nova Scotia

All accounts describe Benjamin Brown while serving a mission in Nova Scotia in the early 1840s (reported variously as 1840 and 1843) being violently assaulted after false charges were brought against him. Some versions report he was ambushed on a road, beaten nearly to death by a mob and left for dead; another account says he was attacked while asleep. In every account a friend discovered him in time and came to his aid, rescuing him from what would likely have been a fatal outcome. The rescue was regarded as a providential deliverance—one source links it to an earlier prophecy that he would suffer but ultimately be preserved. Brown survived the ordeal and continued his missionary service.
