Orson Hyde Sees the Savior and Concourses of Angels in the Kirtland Temple

In March 1836, during the extraordinary spiritual outpouring surrounding the dedication of the Kirtland Temple, Orson Hyde was among those who received one of the most sacred of all manifestations. According to the historical record, in the presence of many other witnesses:

"On several occasions, he spoke in tongues and, in March of that year, in the presence of many others, saw the Savior and concourses of angels."

This visitation took place during the same weeks and meetings in which Joseph Smith, Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, and many others also recorded seeing heavenly beings. The Kirtland Temple dedication period (late March and early April 1836) was widely documented as a time of unprecedented spiritual manifestations in Latter-day Saint history, with dozens of witnesses recording visions, angelic appearances, prophesying, speaking in tongues, and heavenly fire.

Hyde's experience of seeing the Savior and angelic hosts places him among a small and distinguished number of Restoration-era witnesses who recorded personal visions of the glorified Christ — alongside Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, Oliver Cowdery, and others.
